What are the different recording times available for VHS cassette tapes?
Depending on what you set your record speed at on your VCR, this will determine the amount of record time on your VHS tapes. There are 3 record speeds/modes on your VHS deck. SP/LP/& EP modes. A T-120 VHS cassette recorded at SP (Standard Play Mode), best picture quality, will give you 2 hours of record time, in LP (Long Play Mode) it will record for 4 hours, and in EP (Extended Play Mode) it will record for 6 hours. A T-160 VHS cassette in SP mode will record for 2 hours and 40 minutes, in LP mode 5 hours and 20 minutes, and in EP mode 8 hours. A T-180 VHS cassette in SP mode will record for 3 hours, in LP mode 6 hours, and in EP mode 9 hours. The longer you set your VCR record speeds at, (LP or EP mode) the picture and sound quality will not be as clear and sharp, as if you recorded on the SP mode
